Cutting and Pasting
Often you will find it easiest to open a blank canvas in Photoshop, then cut and paste your images to the canvas. Here's how:
1. Open Photoshop
2. File>new
3. Give your new document a name. Remember to use YOUR NAME as part of the file name so I can easily identify your work when grading.
4. Set the size. It will probably be easiest to use inches. 8.5 x 11 is the size of a piece of notebook paper. Think about what you will be putting on this canvas and make sure you have enough room. You can always crop it later.
5. Set the resolution. If you are going to print this document, you need a higher resolution. If you are not going to print it, 72-100 is plenty.
6. Mode should be RGB color.
7. Choose whatever type of background you want.
8. Click OK!
Cutting and Pasting:
1. Use the marquee tool (square made of dashes) to select what you want to copy. If you want to copy the entire image, go to Select>All (control key + A)
2. Edit> Copy (control + C)
3. Click on the file you want to paste onto.
4. Edit>Paste (control + V)
5. You have now created a new layer. In the layer window, make sure the layer you want to work on is highlighted. If you do not see the layer window, go to Windows>Show Layers

Saving as JPEG
To save your Photoshop file as a JPEG file:
1. Make sure you are done! You cannot change individual layers after this process.
2. If you have multiple layers, you need to flatten the image. Click Layers>Flatten Image.
3. File>Save As
4. Under the "file name" box is the "save as type" box. Click on the black arrow on this box and scroll through the pull down menu until you get to JPEG. Click on it.
5. Make sure you are saving the file in the right place-in your inbox!!
